Heat the milk with vanilla pod, it should be hot but not boiling, then remove the vanilla pod and whisk the milk into a thick foam. Place the Barleycup in a tall heatproof glass then add the boiling water and mix well. Finally pour the milk into the glass very slowly down the side of the glass so you have two layers. (if you pour it too quickly, you will have a cappuccino). Spoon over the milk foam to serve.
